Members of the Sound Portraits family support our mission by helping us tell the stories of ordinary Americans, celebrating the power and poetry of their words. We accomplish this through the creation award-winning radio programs broadcast on NPR that reach millions of listeners and through the groundbreaking oral-history initiative StoryCorps.

We have now collected more than 7,000 StoryCorps interviews. In addition to our permanent StoryBooths in Grand Central Terminal and in Lower Manhattan, we launched our first two mobile StoryBooths in May of 2005. These booths visited 36 cities and 25 states during their first year on the road, bringing StoryCorps into American communities across the nation.

• $10,000 covers the cost of a single StoryCorps portable recording kit.
• $7,500 helps cover the costs of our internship program.
• $5,000 allows us to keep our radio documentaries and StoryCorps clips accessible to all on our website for a year.
• $1,000 helps covers the training and salary costs of one part-time StoryCorps facilitator.
• $500 covers the costs of 2 StoryCorps interviews.
• $100 covers the cost of one pair of headphones for production
